Packers WR Romeo Doubs says putting in extra work just a way to ‘respect the game’

Green Bay Packers rookie receiver Romeo Doubs spends most of his free time working on his craft.

The 2022 fourth-round pick, who’s been frequenting the Don Hutson Center on his own time to get in extra work with the JUGS machine, and the Packers have already started to enjoy the fruits of Doubs’ labor.

The first-year wideout from Nevada enjoyed breakout game in a 14-12 Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, totaling eight receptions, 73 yards and his first career touchdown. He was the first Green Bay receiver aside from Davante Adams to have eight or more receptions in a game since Randall Cobb in 2018, and he was just one reception shy of the Packers’ rookie record.

“I figured coming here, it would be a completely different schedule than I would usually have,” Doubs said, via SI.com’s Bill Huber. “I’m first year in the NFL. We have a lot more time than we think, so I frequently like to make time to go to the [training facility] and catch footballs. It became a routine. I’ve been doing it frequently on my own time.

“…Every day, I make sure I find some time to catch footballs. That’s just respecting the game. Not only is it going to get me better as a player, I truthfully just want to respect the game as much as I can.”

Doubs’ extra behind-the-scenes preparation has already paid off three games into 2022. The 22-year-old leads the Packers in receptions (14), targets (16), yards (137), and yards after the catch (84).

Among all rookies, Doubs ranks first in catch percentage (87.5), yards after the catch, and passer rating when targeted (123.2), and fourth in receptions and yards.
