Josh Gordon promoted by Kansas City Chiefs, to make debut Sunday

Veteran wide receiver Josh Gordon is going to add another wrinkle to Sunday night’s big game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills.

Multiple media reports indicate that the pass-catcher has been promoted from Kansas City’s practice squad to its 53-man roster and will make his debut for the team on national television.

A game that might already be among the best of the young NFL season just got a whole lot more interesting. Just recently reinstated by the NFL following an indefinite suspension, Gordon signed on to the Chiefs’ practice squad last month. Apparently, he’s looked good enough in practice to be added to the active roster.

For those who have followed Gordon’s story since he was a second-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2012 supplemental draft, this is the latest chapter in a long story that has included him starring on the field while battling demons in his personal life.

Gordon, 30, has been suspended multiple times by the NFL under its substance abuse policy. The league’s leading receiver back in 2013 with Cleveland (1,646 yards), the Baylor product has played in a grand total of 33 games since the end of the 2013 campaign. Gordon has not suited up in the NFL since December of 2019 when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

This is now another opportunity for Josh Gordon to prove that his substance abuse issues are behind him. He’ll do so with the two-time defending AFC champion Chiefs and with stud quarterback Patrick Mahomes tossing him the rock.
