Insider shares interesting Titans, Mike Vrabel update

Well-known NFL insider Jason La Canfora of The Washington Post isn't buying that Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is on the same page as general manager Ran Carthon ahead of Christmas. 

"I continue to hear the friction between him and new Tennessee Titans GM Ran Carthon is very real, and it seems unlikely Titans ownership would blow out another GM after just doing it last season," La Canfora said about Vrabel for a piece published Tuesday. "They doth protest too much in Nashville about how hunky-dory everything is with their coach..."

It was reported earlier this month that the "Titans intend to retain Vrabel as their coach," in part because of his alleged positive working relationship with Carthon. However, Vrabel continues to be linked in rumors with the New England Patriots even though it's unclear if Patriots owner Robert Kraft will move on from the legendary Bill Belichick this winter. 

Vrabel earned three Super Bowl rings playing for the Patriots from 2001 through the 2008 campaign. Meanwhile, his 5-9 Titans are staring at somewhat of a rebuild with rookie quarterback Will Levis set to open his first NFL offseason atop a depth chart. 

La Canfora indicated on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Chargers could pursue Vrabel after the Chargers parted ways with head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco last week. Belichick also could be an option for the Chargers, but La Canfora heard from one unnamed general manager that Los Angeles president of football operations John Spanos "is not going to want Bill Belichick hanging around." 

John Spanos is the son of Chargers owner Dean Spanos.

More recently, former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak revealed that "everybody I talk to assumes" Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones could replace head coach Mike McCarthy with Belichick unless McCarthy guides Dallas to more than just a single postseason win in January. Such a scenario playing out would leave the New England job open for Vrabel assuming the 48-year-old is interested in once again calling New England home.
